We are home to more than 150 hospitality based businesses and another 80 shops and boutiques, so there is always something going on in our National Historic District. The month of May is packed full of exciting happenings for the young and young at heart, from the Gaslamp Music & Art Festival on Saturday, May 25 to our month-long Salute to Service program honoring the brave women and men that serve in the armed forces. The Gaslamp Quarter Association has teamed up with NBC 7 San Diego and Ashford University to present the Gaslamp Quarter as San Diego’s Salute to Service District throughout the month of May. Many of the Gaslamp Quarter’s restaurants, hotels, shops and entertainment venues are offering specials to military and service members throughout the month, and many throughout the year. SENDING SUPPORT FOR BOSTON FROM GASLAMP
Whiskey Girl (702 5th Ave.) has partnered with Samuel Adams to host Boston Strong Week May 13 - 17 in support of our friends in Boston. Expect Boston-themed dishes from Chef Brad like Boston Clam Chowder and Boston Cream Pies. Proceeds will be donated to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. CLICK HERE for more info.
CELEBRATE GASLAMP ANNIVERSARIES
Can you believe it’s only been one year since barleymash (600 5th Ave.) opened their doors here in the Gaslamp Quarter? They’ve become such a big part of the Gaslamp Quarter community that it feels like they’ve been here for ages. Celebrate their one year of barley pies, brews and more at their anniversary party on Tuesday, May 21st , open to the public 9:00pm that night. DJ Jazzy Jeff will be helping to kick off the celebration that night. You may remember him from a show with a theme song that started with, “Now this is the story all about how/My life got flipped, turned upside down/And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there /I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called…"...Gaslamp? Indeed!
NEW & UPCOMING IN THE GASLAMP
Also, kick off your Memorial Day weekend at the 2nd Annual Gaslamp Music & Art Festival on Saturday, May 25! Join us as over 20 restaurants, shops, galleries and entertainment venues transform into our stages for the event, showcasing FREE live music and art displays all day long. Expect everything from live jazz, blues, Irish music , rock and more, plus a diverse collection of artists in unique settings and galleries throughout the Gaslamp Quarter. Sparks Gallery (530 6th Ave.) will be opening their doors in June 2013, with a special preview exhibition of San Diego Visual Arts Network’s annual “San Diego Art Prize: New Contemporaries Exhibit.” The exhibition will be on display during the entire month of June. The historic building that houses Sparks Gallery will still be in its raw form for the exhibition, before final renovations are completed at the end of the year. FUNNY BONE TICKLERS
The American Comedy Co. (818-B 6th Ave.) - This venue is always primed to serve up chuckles to beat the mid-week blues. May brings Tony Rock May 16 - 18, Rachel Feinstein May 23 - 25, Pablo Francisco May 30 - June 1, and don't forget unpredictable and always hilarious antics abound every Tuesday at Open Mic Night. The Tipsy Crow (770 5th Ave.) - Experience standup comedy the way it was meant to be experienced - up close and personal. It's officially baseball season, which means from Opening Day at PETCO Park to October, there are baseball-themed happy hours and specials galore in Downtown San Diego. When it comes to Special Event Venues we have comprehensive lists of every single venue in this dense district. You might not believe how much we pack into our 16 and 1/2 blocks. You can review the lists or read the guides! There are so many options you will want to study up. Review some of Gaslamp's great shopping too. We have a fun array of independently owned and operated shops and services. We encourage you to SHOP LOCAL and support our small businesses. Our San Diego based merchants can offer personal service and unique items that aren’t in every mall in America.
We can help you find just about anything else you may like with our big collection of Maps. You can select our EZPrint map for an overview that will print up nicely on your desktop printer or try one of our digital maps. We've worked with Google to set up a series of maps that will populate in your cell phone or on your tablet. Either way we have lots of info and options for you.
